My Darling Big D

Eight years ago, on this day, My very first born made her grand debut at 10:40 p.m. weighing in at a whopping 5 pounds and 15 ounces measuring 19 1/2 inches long. It was a loud stormy rainy night and I remember it like it was yesterday.

I had a very short labor (4 hours), got an epidural before I felt a single contraction, and pushed you out in 5 pushes :) When you were first born there were tons of family members all waiting to meet you and hold you and love you...and then they left. It was just the two of us and that's when our bonding began...

Big D, You were my first love. I didn't understand the meaning of love at first sight until the nurse handed you to me and we met eyes for the first time. I knew as soon as I looked at you that I LOVED you and would do ANYTHING to protect you.

It's amazing to me how much you've changed. You went from being a little pink skinned, black fuzzy headed bundle of love, to a tall and slender little girl (with real hair!) that has exceeded all of my expectations of being the oldest and a big sister :)

I love you my sweet Devarooster! You're my baby girl. My very first born. My first true love. My first reason to live. And my new favorite 8 year old! Happy Birthday lovie!

Lots of Hugs and Kisses,

Mommy!

md: Close your eyes!
me: Okay.
md: Okay, now look!

md: Mommy, can you paint my nails?
me: Why!?
md: Cuz, I'm a rock star!
me: I know. But why do you want your nails painted?
md: Cuz, tha girls just love it!
me: Oh really!? How do you know that?
md: Cuz they all have there nails painted...

...*and he sits here admiring his one blue fingernail and one pink fingernail, looking like a rock star!*

changes

You will have to forgive my blog. It's under construction right now. I hope to have it looking decent in the next couple of days.

Devan the Gr8

Remember when you were little and someone handed you a sealed envelop with a big grin on their face and you got the same big grin on your face because it wasn't your birthday and it wasn't a holiday, and the only other thing it could be was an invitation to a birthday party. Not just any birthday party. But a party that some mama meticulously planned out down to the invitations?

I remember! And as I watched my girl hand her pink enveloped flamingo invitations out to her hand picked little friends my heart smiled :) because they were feeling that too!

Yesterday, we celebrated Big D's 8th birthday! Her birthday isn't till the 20th but we celebrated early because her day falls on Fathers day and the Saturday before that was already "booked".

Big D and I started planning this party a month or so ago. I was so excited when she chose to have another luau! We did this last year and I kept most of the decorations. I was even more excited yesterday when she said that she would like to do it again next year! I just love her! She makes life and party planning easy!...well, as easy as possible anyway.

Have I ever mentioned that I love birthday parties? Who doesn't really? It's a joyous occasion where some one's birth is recognized. A time when gifts are given and massive amounts of cake and ice cream are eaten (strawberry cake and ice cream). And balloons! Heavens! I almost forgot about balloons! Helium filled balloon's! Massive amounts of balloons all racing to reach the ceiling!

Wow, I think I just described her birthday party in a nut shell!...

...Well, not completely, I left out the part where we played games and spilled drinks, and laughed alot (and I cried a little)!

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, I'm not posting her big ole cheezy "Devan, my how time has flown by!" speech yet, cuz I'm saving it for her actual birthday!

Super Saturday VBS

Saturday, we held our annual Super Saturday VBS! Our theme was Jungle Journey: Exploring the nature of God...

So we got all wild and crazy :) I was part of the decorating team (my favorite part of course). Unfortunately, I didn't see alot of went on in the classrooms so I can't really blog about that. I can blog about the decorations, food, and awesome fun time that the kiddos had though!

Okay, so I'll show you the decorations and then tell you about the food...cuz that was the coolest part of all :)

Pretty neat huh?

Now on to our lunch menu. It consisted of:

three different types of jungle sandwiches
ants on a log
worms
dried ants
cheddar, sour cream, and salted beetle wings
snake eggs
water from the Nile
bug juice

And for dessert we had cake. Not just any cake though. Cake made with wild, Jungle-y love! The kiddos had three choices. Elephant cake, tiger cake and my personal favorite...
snake cake!

Steven had a really great time with the kids which I won't blog about because I'm sure he's excited to tell you all! So the nitty gritty details from the class rooms, games, and activities will be left to him!

And that my dearies leads me to today...Big D's birthday bash! Which I will tell you guys about tomorrow! Happy Sunday everyone!

The River

Sometimes I just sit here after I title my blog and watch the little blinker thingy, blink. Sometimes it's hard to describe "life". It's hard to write out pure awesomeness...

Sorry, that was just a random thought I suppose...

We went to the river today. I was really excited about this at first. And then Steven informed me that I could not bring my camera because I would drop it in the water...and we cant afford to just throw away $700.00! I took as many pictures as I could only to get home and none of them really turn out :( I had to leave it in the car for the fun part. We walked down stream through freezing water and super slippery rocks, sliding down little waterfalls, and climbing banks to arrive at a calm pool of water. We were happily greeted by other parents carrying their "too afraid to walk" toddlers. Poor Steven carried little d the whole way. I really wish I could've taken my camera. I could've got some really cool shots!

Ah! Oh well, another day I suppose.

Long story short, We had an awesome time. I love my d's (including daddy)!

By the way, Little d and I decided that craw fish were scary and disgusting! And, we want nothing to do with those ugly mini lobsters! Yuck!

Summer

Summer: The warmest season of the year occurring between spring and autumn. It is marked by the longest days and the shortest nights....

A time for swimming, staying up all night, sleeping late, catching lightning bugs, vacations, reunions, slumber parties, hanging out by the pool/beach/lake all day. A season when "time" doesn't really exist.

God gave us this beautiful season and we have no intentions of wasting a single second of it!

There are only 92 or so of these glorious days left! So get out there! Live! Grab your babies or your bestie or both and hit the ground runnin...or the pool swimmin!

Happy thursday...er?...Summer, Everyone!!!

Need I say more?
